Benefits of doing an internship

I'm going to let you in on a little secret.Okay, okay...well It's not really a secret but something overlooked by most high school and college students, I'm talking about is "Internships!"
What I have noticed among students is that they fail to see the benefits of holding an internship and gaining that valuable work experience before graduation. Whether paid or unpaid, the decision is yours but I will tell you a majority of them are unpaid. it's all about the sacrifices you are willing to make in order to reach your full potential. Real world experience is beginning to be crucial in the hiring process, a majority of the entry-level jobs I see require that you have held some similar position or internship to whatever you are applying for.So here are some of the things that I feel you'd be able to learn from an internship.

A Peak into the real world: You'll be gaining that real world  experience that everyone talks about, the one you've been dreaming of for quite some time. you'll be able to apply classroom knowledge directly to something visible.

Build a Network: You'll be meeting new people and making new connections. Learning the proper networking etiquette. You can learn so much from working with others, things that will not only help you as a person but help you develop your key skills. You'll make connections, and you know what they say, "it's not what you know it's who you know."

Stand out against competition: Believe it or not there is someone out there that is better than you, but there is also someone or people that you are better than. These internships will help you gain skills that will help you stand out among the bunch.

Build you portfolio/resume: Gain some experience, build your portfolio. Be able to show future employers what you can do and what you are good at.

A key into your chosen field: This is a big deal. As Miranda from The Devil Wears Prada said to Andrea "Everybody wants this. Everybody wants to be us." This is your key in and you'll be fighting(not literally but you know) against other individuals who are as ambitious and driving as you. And only the strong survive!

Skill and knowledge booster: An ego booster...by the way, that's not cute! A lady once said you never cease to learn even after you have finished school, everyday you learn something to better yourself and your craft. You must keep up with the competition and changing times.

These things that you learn about yourself will help you be able to define your strengths and weaknesses. You'll meet people who'll help you along the way, just make sure you don't burn your bridges. It's all about taking charge, you know what you want and need in life. This is your life and it is up to you to take that initiative, that first step which could change your life forever. Good luck!

An open letter to my bestfriend

Dear bestfriend,

I appologize.

It's crazy that I've never known how to have a steady friendship. Moved around a lot when I was young so as soon as I made a good friend, I always had to move to a new place or lost that friend one way or another. This is actually the longest I have been in the same geographic location. I have met several people over the years, some have remained in my life, and some have not but that's besides the point.

You have remained in my life for all these years, and although I come short at showing you the impact you have made in my life, I hope this note will give you just that.

So dear friend, I want to thank you for opening me up to the world around me. Helping me become comfortable in all situations, lord knows things can get awkward. I'm aware we don't hang out like the best-est of friends or typical friends, but over the years I have noticed that all that is materialistic and superficial. I have noticed that most of the people are in it for themselves, expecting a lot but are not reciprocative. When you and I hang out, we have a BLAST, that's a connection that is hard to find-It's friendship. And when we talk and I share with you my excitement, it is almost like you are excited with me.

I love the fact that you understand me and love me for who I am and aren't quick to judge like most people are. I deeply and wholeheartedly appreciate and love you for all that you are and are growing into. I know that I have graduated and started my adult life and that you are still in school, but you have still remained supportive of me, pushing me to be better and pursue my dreams. Know that I am always here for you dear friend, and always here when you need some advice and support. You are one of the brightest and most creative people I know, and that in itself will get you so far in life.

I'am proud of you and hope to always have you in my life!

Love always,

~D.
